The Countdown Begins

Last Friday, I got the first Depo Lupron injection. I didn't even feel it, even though the needle was like 2 inches long. The nurse said that I probably won't feel any side effects for about a week. She also said that she had a 23 year old patient who didn't feel any side effects. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have something close to the 23 year old's experience.

I've scheduled the fibroid surgery for February 16, 2007. T minus 59 and counting.

Between now and then, there is a 2 month follow up, 2 more shots, and pre-op (that includes a physical and probably blood tests to make sure I'm able to go into surgery). Oh, and maybe some side effects will kick in. Also, I have an annual doctor's appointment next month, and I still have to deal with the whole throat cyst issue. I should keep a running tally of the copays I'm paying. I honestly think I've spent close to $300 but I haven't added it up yet.

I'm much less stressed about these health issues now that I have some idea of what's going on. Unfortunately, my skin and fingernails have suffered. Yes, I have serious pimples, the kind that I haven't had since high school. And that whole "nice fingernails" thing I was going for last summer. All done.

Goals for the next 3 months:

  • Let fingernails grow to normal length
  • Clean house so recuperation doesn't suck
  • Get list of books and movies to read during recuperation
  • Go to Y at least 3 times a week. Starting tomorrow.
  • Buy "recuperation clothes" (something really attractive that won't irritate the healing, like one of these)
