Nerdicidal Tendencies

I'm a nerd. I love this site: Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Grammar and Writing and I killed hours at work the other day reading the Questions and Answers on the Chicago Manual of Style website. Granted, I am technically a writer by profession, so it can count towards my development hours. I guess we're supposed to have somewhere around 80 hours a year, and I have logged about 3, so really, it's okay. But sometimes I wonder if maybe I am in the wrong job. Should I be an editor? I'm intensely critical, and would probably really enjoy ripping apart the work of others.* Or, would I be unsatisfied just revising somebody else's work, and long to write my own? Maybe so. Maybe that's why I have this blog.

I think that if I could change careers and not have to actually apply and compete for a job, I'd like to work on the This American Life show. I'd like to find cool people to interview, in a Sarah Vowell-ish way, and get to travel to potentially nerdy locations, or even really cool places.

Other jobs that sound like fun to me:

Toy buyer
Couch tester. Yeah, just sit on lots of couches and see which ones are the best.
Bad TV show canceller
Bad TV actor critiquer (I hate Ivan Sergei - he sucks)
Beer sampler

One last thing. The Cingular commercial where the moron guys are singing the wrong words to Rock the Casbah. Come on. It's not that hard to find the name of the song. That is SUCH an annoying commercial. Why pick on the Clash anyway? Can't they insult some crappy band, like Extreme, or extremely annoying Christina Aguilera?

*Okay, really, I don't need to get PAID to do that. I can do that for free, like, all the time.
