You've Got To Be Kidding Me

I never in my life thought I'd be going through menopause at 34 years old, yet in just a few short days, I'll be well on my way to hot flashes, night sweats, and all the other joys that come with menopause. Fortunately, it's only temporary, but still. Will I be moody, cranky, fanning myself at my desk in the dead of winter, wishing I could wear a tank top and flip flops to work? There is also the chance that I will experience some or none of the effects of menopause.

This impending early-aging process is because I have at least 2 fibroids in my uterus, and they have to be removed. But due to my own laziness, and disregard for my own health, I can't go right into surgery because I'm severely anemic, so have to build up iron stores before surgery. In the meantime, they're going to give me a shot to induce temporary menopause. Benefits: helps shrink the fibroids, helps reduce blood loss during surgery, helps reduce blood loss before the surgery. If I'm lucky, I won't have my period for at least a couple of months. THANK GOD. I am so sick of having my period.

The reason I'm calling this blog "what is going on here" is because for the past 6 months, I've been saying that a lot. About the fibroids. About this totally weird lump in my throat that came and went within a week. Yet I am still going for an ultrasound tomorrow to determine if there is or was anything there. About the weird bone chip in my jaw that I thought was a canker sore, but is a bone chip, and should hopefully "work its way out" over the next couple of weeks. And, about the girl in the local "roving reporter" interview column who doesn't know there's a war going on. How can you not know there's a war going on?

This is going to be about my experiences with the laundry list of medical problems that I'm dealing with, but will also be about my reaction to the unexpected, the incomprehensible, the annoying, and daily life. Not always negative, not always positive. Just life.
